What is this?
This is the TCOM433 Blog Feed. This feed has been made possible through the use of Yahoo! Pipes. Yahoo! Pipes takes the list of RSS feeds, and then sorts/filters them for the most recent entry from each person in the class. It then does a find/replace to change the usernames to real names before spitting out an RSS feed as a result. This result RSS feed is then syndicated on my blog. You can find the source to the pipe here. It isn't too complicated.
To comment on an entry, click the name of the post. This will bring you straight to the post at the person's page. Unfortunately, it's not realistically possible to syndicate the comments in the same way I've syndicated other posts.
If you'd like to add this rolling feed to a newsreader or a live bookmark then here's a link.
If your name does not appear in this roll, email or contact me with the link to your blog. I will add you as soon as I can.
Note: To prevent sizing issues, pictures have been turned off for the feed. If you desperately need a picture to be shown, please provide a link. -
Charles Samuelson - i started writing my blog in my calender after march 3rd because my computer broke, now here is the culmination of those days.
April 21st
Finished all of the surround mixes and threw them into compressor. this program is such a pain in the ass because i never know what i'm doing and the final product turns out wrong. when i presented it in class, all i got was stereo even though i set it up as a surround sound mix.April 20thI finished up all my stereo mixes and started the transition to surround sound, the way i organized it was that the vocals were in the center with the reverb in the left and right. I made it so the guitars were mostly in the front and their reverb went to the back. I set it up so the drums were in the center and the bass was mostly in the front and sub with some leakage to the back. I really dug the sound.April 17thMet with Stan and he told me that my bass was too loud and didn't need to equalize all my drums. i thought it sounded awesome but he said it was too processed. We added compression to it and raised the high end a little bit. We did it to back down. He threw a noise gate on the guitar so it wouldn't hum and then bused it to a reverb channel to cover up the cut off. After this I made the same changes to all my other songs and got them sounding pretty loud. I like loud music, especially hardcore.April 16thI finished back down because i'm supposed to meet with stan tomorrow. I added the gang vocals and bused them to their own reverb channel. I bounced it out and plan on showing it to stan tomorrow as the one track that i have time for.April 14thI fished wasted youth, this song has to be the hardest one i had. there were so many changes musically and every time i would adjust levels, it would sound horrible so i had to readjust. i tried putting a noise gate on the guitars because there was too much hum, but i couldn't figure out how it worked so i just muted the guitar whenever it wasn't playing. I finally got it to sound mediocre and called it a song. Once i get some compression on it, it should bring the lower parts of the song up and lessen the dynamic difference between the softer parts.Aril 13thI finished up beaten down. on the rough mix it sounded like the vocals were too loud so i piped those down. the filter i used on the vocal overdub wasn't working right either, so i took that off of it. I had to mess with the gang vocals because they were too loud so i set them all to different levels and bused them to reverb and it sounded alright. This is my favorite song, so i'll try to get more out of it once i talk to stan.April 11thI opted out of drinking tonight to work on beaten down. I got all the levels set and ready. for some reason the bass on this song sound muddy and distorted but i don't think there is anyway to fix it because it's the actual track that came through in recording. Since we had a lot of trouble getting the timing right for this song i don't think it would be an easy task to overdub it again. I set the levels and threw on a sweet vocoder like plug in on the vocal overdub. I'm planning on finishing it up this weekend.April 7thi worked wasted youth and i was working on setting all the levels for it. this song has lots of dynamic change in it, so i had to go through and listen to the song about 20 times to get everything right for each individual instrument. I set up equilizers on all the instruments to get the tone i wanted out of them. I got reverb on the vocals by busing that out to an aux fader. I gave up on this once wrestling came on though.March 31stI started back down in my free time between work and wrestling. I basically just got the levels set on it because it's kind of a crappy day and i don't feel like hanging out in the studio. I set up the equilizers on the guitars and added a little bit more power to the bass because having a double track wasn't cutting it.March 24thI started beaten down and wasted youth tonight. I really just listened to it and muted tracks and doubled others. i was trying to give it a little bit more oomf and i got a rough version of what i wanted out of them. i bounced them out and burned them to cd to listen to them on my shitty cd player to see what i was going to need to add and take down. There was too much bass in general so i'll turn that down in my later mixes.March 18thI couldn't stick to my monday regiment of working on songs last night because it was St. Patricks day and i ended up at the bar. I went back to working on paranoia. I put compression on the master fader and bounced it out and took it to my cd player. It sounded fine but it seemed like i was getting some phase distortion. I turned down the reverb that i set up and it sounded fine.March 10th through 16thSPRING BREAK... WOOO!March 9thSet up reverb on paranoia and retaliation. The vocals sounded great but i needed to cover up the parts where the vocals weren't sustaining. I doubled the gang vocals on paranoia because it sounded weak on the mix. I bused that through the aux channel that i set up for main vox and it sounds great. I also bounced out my rough mix of retaliation and let the band listen to it.March 6thI started on all the tracks and set some of the general levels on the songs. I set up aux tracks for all the songs and doubled bass and bass drum because they sounded pretty lame. I got rid of all the excess tracks so i could clean up the mix window and make it look better. I set up some groups on all the tracks i doubled and paired those together so it would balance out better. -
Jesse - Semester Overview
Here is where I am going to try and fill in all the gaps.
Wed. February 20th and 21st we recorded. On the 20th we laid down all the music tracks, and on the 21st we did vocals.
Sun. March 23rd Went into studio for the first time to get a rough mix. I waited so long after we recorded because I didn't want to start studio until after spring break.
Wed. March 26th Went into studio to do more rough cut mixing. I messed up and accidentally brought down the main mixer faders while I was adjusting levels, and I couldn't figure out why the song mix was so quite. Until it hit me that night in bed.
Wed April 2nd I finished my rough mixes.
Saturday April 12th I had my first meeting with Stan, he helped me a lot with my mix. He just helped me with one song, and had me study it and apply the same basic ideas to my other mixes.
The week of April 13th through the 19th I couldn't get into studio, every time I tried to get in, all the suites were full. I was however able to meet with Stan one time during this week, with Charles, and helped me further on with my mixes.
Wednesday April 23rd had a practice run for our showcase, both Charles and my mixes didn't come up in surround, only stereo. Hopefully we can fix this for the real deal on Friday May 2nd.
April 28th I am scheduled to meet with Stan tomorrow on the 29th at 10:20am, I am hoping to show him my improved songs, and hope that they will be good enough to bounce them out in surround. So Charles and I can put them on the DVD for our showcase.

John Rozewicki - Critiques
I was extremely grateful for all the nice things people said about my mix, and I was grateful for all the good suggestions. I'm going to implement most of them and tune up the stereo mix before I begin my surround mix.
Though, I do have to take a few days off to go get my Japanese visa in Chicago this weekend.

Nick R. - Boy it has been some time
Jeez everyone, sorry for not blogging. Spring Break got in the way and distracted me from all the wonderful updates that happened prior. Laura and I recorded in the Music Tech studios and it went swimmingly after some initial kinks. After that, Laura mixed down the piano files and we used them for our recording sessions in Studio B. Those sessions went even better and we got a lot done, including some alternate percussion, melodica and trumpet tracks. We plan on recording sometime in the coming week with a bassist and drummer, and we're also working on some rough mixes to send Sarah Balliet, the cellist from Murder by Death, a band I absolutely love. We're hoping she'll come in and do some session recordings for us.
So there's a lot left to do, but our mixes are going to start taking shape soon. We may do some more trumpet recording since the talent isn't 100% behind his performance, and an accordion part may come into play as well. More updates soon...more frequently. -
Luke Wyatt - Blog #2
Luke Wyatt 433 Audio Blog Number 2
I am right at the beginning of the week of recording for me. I have long list of things I need to accomplish in the next few days to assure a smooth recording session on Thursday night. My band consist of my friends so I have been around them playing music for the entire semester. I know their songs and how they are going to sound. I have lots of microphone questions for my professor that I assume we get answered at our technical plan session on Tuesday.
Basically, everyone is getting super excited and I am too, This blog is sure going to be better once I get recording and mixing the tracks. Hopefully I'll be able to some music to the blog so everyone can hear it too. Tomorrow the band is having a 5 hour practice and a complete rehearsal of all their songs. I will be attending that session and taking notes. I'll fill everyone in tomorrow on how that went.
Until next time, good luck everyone on their projects. -
Joel Suenram - Funcie Funk Recording
Tonight I recorded five tracks for Funcie Funk. Everything went really smooth, and the band sounded great. We did have to tweak the tech plan, deciding that some of the drums needed some gates. That was pretty easy and quick to patch. We finished five tracks with all of the instruments, and two guitar overdubs for 4 songs and one for the last. Their new songs sound great, and I'm especially fond of a track titled "Get a Rip." We actually started an hour late, and didn't finish the sound check until 8:15. We began recording around 8:30, and, amazingly, we were finished at midnight. We even had time for a few breaks and dinner. The lead singer, Al, is just getting over being ill, so all of our vocal overdubs will have to happen this upcoming week. A big thanks to John for crewing tonight, things went a lot smoother and quicker with him there. And, of course, a big thanks to Stan. I'm excited to get the vocal overdubs recorded and start my mixes--the whole thing should turn out great.

I have finished the ADR sessions for my project. I just need to finish up the last bit of foley this weekend, and then I can get down to mixing and dialing everything in. I only need one or two effects from CD. I'll see about that this week. The ADR session with Michael Bloxham went well. He was very nice and professional. We were done within 40 minutes. Trackback(0)
